DEAF ILLUSIONIST TO OPEN 98TH FLOWER MARKET
RITTENHOUSE SQUARE, PHILADELPHIA—The hilarious magic of Sam Sandler, America’s only full-time deaf illusionist will open the 98th Rittenhouse Square Flower Market for Children’s Charities which takes place this year Wednesday and Thursday, May 9 and 10. This dynamic and passionate family entertainer, who has combined magic and comedy with jaw-dropping illusions comes to the Flower Market courtesy of Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, one of this year’s beneficiaries. The other 2012 beneficiaries are Anti-Violence Partnership of Philadelphia, Mighty Writers and Rubye’s Kids, Incorporated.
The oldest continuously-held event in Rittenhouse Square, the Market spotlights these beneficiaries, who will be providing interactive activities for adults and children, while at the same time promoting their organizations and the projects for which they are raising funds. This year, the Children’s Resource Center at the Flower Market begun in 2011 will continue, giving many other nonprofit organizations a chance to introduce themselves to the public.
Flowering outdoor and indoor plants, savory herbs, along with food, crafts, collectibles, signature lemon sticks, Little Miss Rittenhouse posters, last minute Mother’s Day gifts are sold at the Market, amid continuous entertainment for all ages. The Flower Market is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. both days (rain or shine),
“Every dollar raised at the Market goes directly to the kids, whose organizations are raising funds for violence prevention in schools, literacy, family education programs, and enrichment and entertainment for inner-city children,” notes Miriam Kane, RSFMCC Treasurer. Last year, the Flower Market distributed over $24,000.00 to its beneficiaries for their locally-based programs.
