FLOWER MARKET BRINGS BACK RED-AND-WHITE STRIPED TENTS
RITTENHOUSE SQUARE, PHILADELPHIA–For the 97th annual Rittenhouse Square Flower Market for Children’s Charities on May 4th and 5th, the Square will be transformed into the nostalgic days of yore by bringing back the magnificent red-and-white striped canopy tents.
Being the oldest continuously-held event in Rittenhouse Square, this year’s Market benefits and spotlights ConKerr Cancer, Dignity Housing, Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia and Turning Points for Children. In addition, for the first time in the 97-year history of the Market, there will be a Children’s Resource Center, giving many other children’s service organizations a chance to introduce themselves to the public and describe the necessary services they provide for at-risk children and their families in our area.
Flowering outdoor and indoor plants, savory herbs, along with food, crafts, signature lemon sticks, Little Miss Rittenhouse posters are sold at the Market, which is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. both days (rain or shine). Bring your kids and bring your moms to this entertainment-packed two-day event.
Falling on the immediately preceding Wednesday and Thursday of Mother’s Day, the Flower Market provides the perfect opportunity to find that ideal Mother’s Day gift.
“The Flower Market is one way Philadelphians can step up to the plate and help. Each plant purchased beautifies Philadelphia and benefits deserving children in our community. It may only be two days a year, but the Flower Market is still the BEST place to find flowering plants and herbs in Center City,” comments Curtis J. Roth, RSFMCC President.
Last year, the Flower Market distributed over $27,000.00 to its beneficiaries for their locally-based programs.
2011 Beneficiary Sponsors include Coldwell Banker Preferred and Gorman Investment Group. Friends of the Market sponsors include Beneficial Bank. In-kind sponsors include Atria Senior Living, Weekly Press, and Rittenhouse Row.
